Booja Booja Award Winning Selection Review

I’ve been eyeing Booja-Booja for quite some time, sparked by their rave reviews and celebrity shout-outs. My initial game plan was to indulge in their Salted Caramel Truffle selection, but them being out of stock led me to the Award Winning Selection instead.

So, who’s behind these vegan truffles? Based in the heart of Norwich, this vegan chocolate and ice cream specialist has managed to snag some impressive endorsements from names like Romesh Ranganathan, Nigella Lawson, and Olly Murs. It’s not just celebrities giving them applause; Booja-Booja has a trophy cabinet with accolades from esteemed panels – think five awards in 2023 alone, including honours from the Great Taste Awards and the Nourish Vegan Awards.

First impressions, the packaging, a lovely combination of black and gold, caught my attention immediately. The product comes with an outer sleeve allowing you to slide the box of truffles out when you want them.

Once you slide off the outer sleeve, Booja-Booja shares their journey and ethos on the back of the box, which is a nice touch. You then peel back a flap detailing the different truffles and their positions in the box. It’s a really nice touch that doesn’t leave you wondering which flavour is which.

Unfortunately what happened next put a dampener on what had been a very promising start. Upon opening the box I was extremely disappointed to find that the truffles had all melted and created a mess.

This concerned me a little as it hadn’t been that hot in the days leading up to delivery. Although I don’t know what kind of temperature it might have been in the warehouses and courier van on its way to me, I can’t stress enough how important it is for products to arrive in impeccable condition, regardless of the climate or the courier’s van temperature. While I didn’t mind too much since I ordered for myself, I would be absolutely devastated if this was ordered as a gift for someone else.

I’m not saying this ruined the whole affair for me. These things happen, and while it was a letdown, the true worth lies in the taste. So I stuck them in the freezer for a bit to firm up before I did the taste test.

A Lowdown On The Truffles

After a bit of time in the freezer to remedy the unexpected melting situation, it was time to give Booja-Booja truffles the taste test.

Surprisingly, the truffles recovered quite well. The consistency was manageable, if not quite as the chocolatiers intended. The two flavours that I enjoyed the most were the Stem Ginger truffle and the Rhubarb & Vanilla Fool.

I am quite fond of Stem Ginger and chocolate as a combination, so I knew I would like these as well. But while Rhubarb and Vanilla go together very well, I was curious as to how it would mix with chocolate. For me, it was my favourite selection in the box, and I absolutely loved the combination.

I’d also like to praise the Almond Salted Caramel selection as I adore anything Salted Caramel flavoured, but while delicious, it wasn’t the star attraction for me. Likewise for the Hazelnut Crunch, while great, it still wasn’t my number one selection in the box.

I’m not a fan of anything coffee/espresso related, so I can’t say I was a big fan of that selection. But I’m sure those who do love coffee will really like that selection included here.

Addressing Common Questions

Dietary Concerns: Booja-Booja truffles are vegan and free from dairy, gluten, and soy.

Shelf Life: The truffles should have a shelf life of at least a couple of months, but it’s best to store them in a cool, dry place if not planning to consume immediately.

Storage Recommendations: If they arrive melted, a short time in the freezer can help restore their texture.

The Final Verdict on Booja-Booja’s Award Winning Selection

After my little adventure from the freezer to the first taste, you’re probably wondering if Booja-Booja’s Award Winning Selection hits the sweet spot. We’ve talked about their celebrity endorsements and the mountain of awards they’ve scooped up, but does the product itself live up to the hype?

Price-wise, Booja-Booja selections aren’t too steep, especially considering these are handcrafted vegan truffles.

Flavour-wise, the truffles are a hit, particularly the Rhubarb & Vanilla Fool, which for me was delightful. I liked that there was a good choice of different flavours rather than just two or three.

However, we can’t gloss over the melted state they arrived in. This hiccup speaks volumes about the importance of proper handling and delivery, especially for products as delicate as chocolate. It was a let down for sure, but once rectified, the truffles redeemed themselves with their taste and quality.

Conclusion: If you choose to indulge in Booja-Booja’s Award Winning Selection, chances are you’ll enjoy a premium vegan treat. Just hope that the courier service shares the same dedication to preserving the product as its creators did in crafting it.
